headshot-3Amanda is a Lyric soprano living in the Orange County area.  She has extensive performance experience in opera, art song, and concert repertoire. After graduating with her Masters degree from Boston University, she was honored to receive a Fulbright Scholarship to study  at the prestigious Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Finland.

While in Finland she studied with Outi Kahkonen, who is President of the European Voice Teacher’s Association, and a world renowned teacher and lecturer.  She also got to work alongside outstanding collaborative pianists and leaders in the field Ilmo Ranta and Collin Hansen. She sang in several recitals at Sibelius, featuring German repertoire by Wolf, and featuring Finnish classical and folk songs. The culmination of her year in Finland was the preparation of two recitals featuring a wide variety of Finnish and Swedish repertoire, which she presented in Helsinki at the Swedish Krystuskyrkan, and in Stockholm at the Sankta Eugenia Kyrkan.

After her Finnish adventure she moved to New York City where auditioned for opera companies and had some amazing musical experiences!  While in New York she performed as Antonia in Les Contes d’hoffmann with Utopian Opera Company in Manhattan. She was also part of the New York Summer Opera  program where she sang the role of Fiordiligi from Cosi fan tutte. In this same year she also performed with Garden State Opera in New Jersey, singing the role of  Suor Dolcina in Suor Angelica.

Amanda also has experience composing music.  One of her pieces (written in Finnish) premiered in the play “Our Kiki” at the New York International Fringe Festival in July 2013, and will also be performed as part of Arizona State University Theatre Department Mainstage in April 2015.

Amanda’s opera roles include Nella in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi and Geraldine in A Hand of Bridge  at Boston University,  Tessa in The Gondoliers  with Michigan G&S Society, Edith in Pirates of Penzance  and Etelka in The Fortune Teller  with Michigan Comic Opera Guild, and  Phyllis in Iolanthe   with New England Gilbert and Sullivan Society. Other opera scenes include Susannah in Susannah,  Frasquita in Carmen,  Cendrillon in Massenet’s Cendrillon,  Leonora in Beethoven’s Fidelio,  Calisto in La Calisto,  the Countess in Le Nozze di Figaro, and Lakmé in Lakmé.  She has performed as Fiordiligi in Cosi fan Tutte and Susannah in Susannah  with Longwood Opera, and as a concert soloist with New England Light Opera, and New England Gilbert and Sullivan Society.

Amanda achieved her Masters of Arts degree from Boston University under the tutelage of Sarah Arneson, and her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan where she was a student of the late internationally renowned soprano Shirley Verrett.

In addition to her University studies, she has studied and performed in Italy in numerous concerts, including one featuring Bellini works held at the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence, and also a collection of Italian Opera Scenes in Sesto Fiorentino, and a concert of African American Art Songs.  She worked with renowned artists such as Donna Brunsma previously with Lyric Opera of Chicago, Joyce Fieldsend from Opera Fenice in Venice, and Gianni Fabbrini from Luigi Cherubini Conservatory in Florence.

Amanda enjoys sacred music and has performed many pieces with orchestra including Mozart’s Coronation Mass, John Rutter’s Requiem, Vivaldi’s Gloria, Schubert’s Mass in G, Handel’s Messiah, Mozart’s Missa Brevis, Bach’s Magnificat (sections), Faure’s Requiem, Vaughn-Williams’ Sea Symphony, Verdi’s Requiem, Brahms’ German Requiem, Britten’s War Requiem, Bach’s Mass in B Minor, Bruckner’s Te Deum, Saint-Saëns’ Oratorio de Noël  and Purcell’s O Come ye sons of Art.

Among her many other accolades, she was the recipient of The Michigan Grant for Undergraduate Study, The McIntosh and Binkow Scholarships, The National Alliance for Excellence Encouragement Award, 1st Place in The Arizona Arts Chorale Competition for Classical Voice, Finalist in The Herberger Young Artist Competition, and 1st Place winner 
in the NATS Musical Theatre Competition (Arizona Chapter).

She has worked with such renowned artists and teachers as William Bolcom, John Moriarty, Kelly Kaduce, George Shirley, Timothy Cheek, Joshua Major, Phyllis Curtin, Claude Corbeil, Carol Yahr, Joshua Greene, Kay Walker Castaldo, Helena Binder, and David Gram.

Amanda resides in Orange County with her husband Carl, and continues to look for ways to make her creative mark on the world.  Amanda is also an experienced voice teacher and a vocal and language coach, so if you are interested in taking lessons in technique or diction, please feel free to email her!

Amanda’s voice students have performed in prestigious regional talent shows, Celebrity events, Opera and Musical Theatre venues nationwide, and in many local and community events in Michigan, Boston, New York,  Arizona and Orange County.

Amanda currently sings at St. Mary’s Anglican Catholic Church in downtown Orange and Rock of the Foothills Lutheran Church in LaVerne, CA.  Amanda performs in local events and galas in the Orange County and surrounding areas.
